Hi! I’ve been the pastor here at Shoreline for about 1,865 days and counting. I was a pastor in Southern California for a good deal longer than that, starting a church, having three children (my wife Annette helped with that by the way), growing a church, raising rabbits, learning how to BBQ and writing various books, articles, and study guides. I’m a devoted fan of J.R. Tolkien, CS Lewis, J.K. Rowling, USC Trojan football, my wife Annette, flannel sheets and my home made tacos. I once built a 3--bunny hutch with a picture out of a book, some wood, a brand new electric drill and approximately 3,412 screws! My greatest passion, however, is following Jesus with all I am, serving Him, telling others about Him, and wondering how I got so lucky that I got to do this for a living. Some friends call me J-Har. I am the Assistant Pastor including Youth and College. I got my degree in Biblical Studies, with an emphasis in Youth Ministry. It took me 7 years but hey, at least I got it. I picked the worst location to be a pastor. It is really difficult to be living in the environment of Santa Barbara. The scenery is terrible, the beaches are dirty and the weather is cold. But on a serious note, I love Youth and College Students. I love my wife and daughter, as you can see in the picture. I love to play sports and go to the beach. My passion in life is to help people find their way to God and to be there for people when they are in tough times. It is a blessing being part of God’s plan in furthering His Kingdom. The people at Shoreline are really Awesome! They are caring, warm-hearted and are very friendly. Come and visit us soon. I was born and raised in Guatemala and I am the 3rd youngest of 13 children. At the age of 18, God opened the door for me to come to the United States. While growing up, I went to church and had Christian parents, it wasn't until I was 19 when I truly decided to ask Jesus be my Savior. I have been involved in ministry for many years, serving as a youth pastor for various churches in the Santa Ynez Valley, playing drums on different worship teams, and sharing the gospel with whoever the Lord leads me to. I've been married to my amazing wife for 5 1/2 years. I enjoy traveling, camping and BBQ'ing. I'm excited to see how the Lord will use me to further His kingdom.
I was born and raised in Santa Barbara and am the oldest of 4 children. My parents became Christians when I was about 2 1/2, so from what I can remember I was raised in a Christian home. I was one of those kids who asked Jesus into their heart every single week at Sunday School...until my mom told me that once I asked Jesus into my life He would always be with me and never leave me. When I was in high school, I really knew that I needed to commit my life to Jesus and choose to follow Him, and so I demonstrated this by being baptized. After high school, I pursued a degree in Culinary Arts, but also took Early Childhood Education classes. I've been involved in Children's Ministry for over 10 years. I am currently a preschool teacher at a local Christian preschool. I love children and seeing them come to put their trust in the Lord. My husband and I have been married for 5 1/2 years. I enjoy cooking, reading, traveling and camping. I look forward to serving the Lord here at Shoreline Community Church and ministering to the children in the neighborhood.
Love the Lord with all your heart, all your mind, all your strength and love your neighbor as yourself is the calling the Lord has put on my heart and reminds me that I can only do that when I rely upon Him and His strength. My favorite verse which I repeat often is "The One who calls you is faithful and He will do it." 1 Thessalonians 5:24. My neighbors are the children, families and immigrants that are in the surrounding community of Shoreline church and my home. In addition to this calling, the Lord has given me my husband Craig, two sons, two great daughter-in-laws and three grandchildren. I am an avid reader and love to cook as well as take long walks with my husband and dog. Beach walks are the best!
I could describe myself several ways: family man, church man, outdoorsman and craftsman! My career and much of my life has been spent serving Christ and His Church, but as a leader and trainer of leaders. I am a retired College Professor who trained Church leaders for 29 years. My wife and I have 3 children and 8 grandchildren who we have tried to introduce to God and His creation. In retirement I have hiked to the top of Half Dome, almost to the top of Mt. Whitney, built several home additions and remodeled two of my family members homes as well. I love the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting and making things with my hands, such as: houses, furniture, cabinets, etc. But I don’t like yard work or painting! We would love to have you come and visit the church. We would love to meet you.
I was blessed to grow up in Santa Barbara and drove by this lovely church for years thinking it was some stuffy estate. After coming to the Lord and a few years of knocking around I have come to know and be blessed by the loving church family of Shoreline. Stuffy? Absolutely NOT! Full of love? YES! As one of the elders, I am privileged to serve the congregation and desire that each of us use our gifts in service to our Lord. I invite you to seek your gifts and find how rewarding it can be! I earnestly seek the Lord’s guidance and welcome all inputs from each of us to help the congregation meet Shoreline’s goal of developing fully devoted followers of Christ. Please join us for the investment in your life - The close relationship with our Lord Jesus!
I confess, I failed retirement! So I am grateful to be one of the newest members on the staff of Shoreline. After graduating from Westment with a BA in English and Sociology, I spent most of my working career as a follower of Jesus Christ cleverly disguised as a purchasing/inventory control manager for manufacturing companies in Santa Barbara. Now I get to daily work and serve our Lord openly with a fantastic team of believers. Honestly, it’s getting to live Psalm 100 every day!
When I’m not serving in the church office, or the tech board on Sunday mornings, I enjoy living in Santa Barbara with long walks and hikes, good stories, good music, good coffee, dreaming up places to visit, and most importantly, doing it all with my best friend, my husband, Rick.
